How to Manage Your Calendar Across Time Zones

Matt Stauffer

I’m flying to Madison next week, which is in the Central time zone–but I live in the Eastern time zone. I’ve spent the last few weeks entering items into my calendar with titles like “Meet with Diana – 4pm Madison time” in hopes that that will make everything less confusing when my calendar switches time zones next week.

Just in time, Lifehacker posted an article titled “How do I prevent time zone mess-ups while traveling.” They have directions for every major calendar software (including Google Calendar) on how to handle time zone cross-overs with your schedule. It answered all of my questions, and now when I add an a calendar item schedule during my time in Madison, I just drop-down the time zone and make it “Central.” Easy. Done.

Hey, that’s a really useful tip. I’ve wondered that myself from time to time as I travel and my appointments get all thrown off. Thanks!
